  • Happy 3rd Anniversary !!!

Six years ago today we started to "go out." We both thought we were having an international fling.
Who would've thought "the American girl and the Korean guy" would get married three years later on the same day?! This is the first picture we took together on a beautiful October afternoon in 2002.

Some snapshots from our first year together in Korea (my hair is crazy!)

    Flash forward to 2008

    Happy 3rd Wedding Anniversary Oppa!

And thanks again to all the wonderful family and friends that have supported, encouraged and prayed for us throughout the years. We love you!!

    September 9, 2008

Dlau told us about the Writers and Artists Concert Series at the B&N in Union Square featuring NY Times reporter David Carr and singer/songwriter (and reportedly Mandy Moore's bf) Greg Laswell. We headed out and really enjoyed the story-telling/song set. The combination of Laswell's sad, sweet songs and the story of Carr's amazing, crazy life made for a cool, complimentary collaboration.

I love that in NYC there are so many free shows, exhibits and events you can attend on any given day. It's really perfect for poor city-dwellers like us.

    September 11, 2008

The 7th anniversary of the tragic September 11 events. On the way to work I noticed that things were somber and quiet that morning. There was a little more police prescence than usual. I wrote an entry for Revelife about the 9/11 events you can read here.

Later on that night I stopped in the middle of the street to take a picture of the World Trade Center memorial lights that are beamed up each 9/11 where the two towers stood. It's still hard to believe those buildings are gone.

    September 13, 2008

Kyu was in town on a business trip so he and Marie came to visit us in our new place. We hung out in random places around the city, here we are at Le Pain Quotidien near Central Park South.

Later that night we had dinner at Amy Ruth's, which is a neighborhood landmark. We only live 3 blocks away but weren't able to try out their famous chicken and waffles until that night. The food was really good!  We especially loved their cornbread, mac n cheese and fried okra! I have a feeling we'll be taking all our visitors here.

Happily filled with good Southern food!

  • Dan and Christine's Wedding

After our lovely Labor Day weekend we had a super busy weekend of church activities and a wedding. The creative, adventure-loving and super cute couple that is Dan and Christine got married! These two were among the first people we befriended in NJ. I met Christine in small group and Suseok oppa got to know Dan through a web-related project. It was so fun to see these two join their lives together and meet their awesome family and friends.

    Pictures from the wedding day:

We hung out with Julia and Kayla before the wedding. Suseok oppa played with Kayla while her momma got ready for the wedding. Doesn't it look like Kayla is waving hello in the first pic.

Christine made all the flowers for the wedding out of tissue paper (bouquets, corsages, bouts, centerpieces- everything)! It was amazing and looked so real! Here is one of the many centerpieces she painstakingly created.

We had a ton of fun at their wedding. Their wedding also further confirmed how small the world is. Dan's best man Ulysses was an acquaintence from college. I actually met Uly in Gainesville and hung out with him and then several months later when Kyumee, Grace, Sunhi, Laurie and I vacationed in NYC for winter break we met up with him again. I never heard from him again but there he was at the wedding. Turns out he's Dan's best friend from college.

Several awesome highlights of the wedding:
-Best man's speech: Uly gave the awesomest best man's speech I've ever heard! It was the perfect combination of humor, old stories, touching moments and length. Man, give it to a pastor to deliver the best speech ever!
                - Father of the Bride's speech: Christine's dad gave a touching and funny tribute of Christine. It was so incredibly sweet and heartfelt. I teared up a couple of times during his speech. You could really tell how proud he was of Christine and how happy he was she found Dan. Loved it!
-The people at our table: we were seated with a few people we knew and two other couples we didn't know. We totally hit it off with the two couples we didn't know. It was crazy how much we talked and laughed. When  the night was over it felt like we were old friends. Who knew you could hit it off with random strangers like that?

That's it for us as far as weddings go for 2008 but hopefully in 2009 we'll be attending several, much anticipated weddings!

Dan and Christine- we hope you love being married and have many, many, blessed years together!

  • Goodbye to the Dog Days of Summer...

The summer ended with a fun, long weekend dog-sitting and picnicking in Central Park. My coworker Chris asked several of us at work if anyone could dog-sit for him. I replied "YES, pick, me, pick me!" in .02 seconds.

I have never been a dog lover but getting to know Mimi's dog Baby and frequently being around dogs at work, I somehow started to really like dogs.  Especially, Chris' dog, Gromit- I think he's seriously the cutest, most well-behaved doggy I've ever met (I'm sorry Mimi and Qme, yes, he beats out Baby and Wooyoo).

Here are some pics from our weekend with Gromit and our Labor Day picnic:

At first I think Gromit was super sad to be away from Chris. He seemed down and timid. We tried to make him feel comfortable and play with him. After a couple of walks and playing fetch with him he made himself comfortable at our apt much to my relief.

It was so nice to walk Gromit around our neighborhood. Every where we went people would stop and comment and want to pet him. He's such a cute doggy!

Every Labor Day since we've moved up here we've had a picnic in Central Park. First year was with Kyu and the second year Sue unni and Brian joined us. This year Diana, James, Christine, Cat, Grace and Gromit joined us.

The weather was so gorgeous- cool and clear, perfect for a picnic. We had tons of delicious food and drink. It was such a nice way to end the summer. On days like that I have to stop and thank God for all His blessings. I feel so incredibly lucky to be in NYC living out a dream, surrounded by good friends, living in a lovely little apt with a wonderful husband.

    Thank you so much God!

  • What I Did This Summer Part 3

Yay, almost done with the summer photo updates! Looking back at these pics was fun. I ate way too much this past summer and miss my family and Florida friends.

    August

Two weeks after we moved in, my parents came up to visit us for the first time since we moved up North. I think they would have enjoyed Pal Park a lot more than NYC because of all the Korean stuff but they said they really enjoyed NYC. In two days, we managed to squeeze in two visits to Pal Park and a visit to Ktown as well as a few NYC sites.

    Day 1

    IMG_1569IMG_1572

Brunch at Community Food and Juice near Columbia; tour of Times Square/Midtown

     IMG_1586IMG_1587

We stopped for a snack and break in Bryant Park; checked out a photo exhibit in the library. After midtown we went to Herald Square to check out Macy's and then the Empire State Bldg Observatory (thanks YK for the tics!)

    IMG_1596IMG_1598IMG_1600IMG_1605

Mini food tour in Ktown: first course at Mandoo Bar, second course at the tiny kimbap place next door, third course at Gam Mi Oak and fourth course at Pinkberry (my parents' first time).

    Day 2

    IMG_1608IMG_1612

In front of our building; started out the day with a trip to Pal Park, where my parents got some much needed Korean supplies and food. We had Son Ja Jang for lunch and then went to the park in West New York to see the city skyline. It was a gorgeous day!

    IMG_1627IMG_1625

After Jersey we went back to the city to watch Mamma Mia! The show was a lot of fun and the those ABBA songs were stuck in my head for days.

Later that night we ended up going back to Pal Park to eat Korean food again. My parents definitely got their fill while they were visiting us. The next morning they drove down to FL with the Golf. It was sad to say goodbye.  Their visit was really nice, but too brief. I think the size of our apt was getting to them.

The following weekend Christine, one half of Jamestine, invited us to her parents lovely, new home in Holmdel. Continue reading

  • What I Did This Summer Part 2

Continuation of what I did this summer (sorry this entry has been sitting on private half finished forever, more to come shortly)...

    July
Attended the JAMA conference in Philly with Peter. My eyes are all red in this picture b/c it was a particularly touching night and I got the chance to pray over Peter. We had such a good time and got to know some of the folks from Joy much better. We were really blessed at the conference.

Picnic in S. Jersey for the 4th of July. Lonnie, James and Christine really outdid themselves with all the great food.

Peter is trying to get the flame going in this picture, using the box top. It was hilarious to watch. hehe

  • What I Did This Summer Part 1

This has been the longest I've gone without updating my xanga in 2 years! I added pics to my site a couple of weeks ago and have been slowly trying to organized them each week but didn't finish until just now. *phew* Sooo many pictures. This isn't everything but this will give you a good idea of what I've been up to this past summer.

May- we went down to Florida for the Oldskool Get Together and for Peter's high school graduation.

Oldskool Get Together 2008 in South Florida. Good friends, lots of laughter and catching up, we had such a great time and we're so blessed to have so many wonderful friends. Miss you guys!

I can't believe Peter is now a college freshmen. Time has flown by so fast and watching him grow up has been surreal. I still think of him as my baby bro but seeing him in these pics I know he's a young man now. He's made our entire family so proud. He's a godly young man with a big heart for people, we couldn't ask for more. He's so smart too, decided to go to the University of Florida, to continue the family tradition.

We had a BBQ in honor of Peter's graduation at Wekiva Springs. I forgot how gorgeous the springs in FL are. The water was so cool and clear. I think we ate enough samgyupssal for a year.

  • Yes, I'm a dork...

I think everybody knows that New Kids on the Block has decided to come out from retirement and make a new album. So when I heard this I thought this was really dumb and that nobody was going to care. I even made fun of the hubs who is a closet NKOTB fan (he swears in Korea guys and girls alike loved them back in the day) and thought their reunion was a cool idea.

    But...

after watching this video of them on the Today Show. I'm not going to lie...

I'm a little bit excited about their reunion.

Watching this clip, I was transported back to 1989 when I was a NKOTB fanatic. I even got a lil happy when I saw Jordan Knight, my favorite member of the group. kekek I was surprised they all aged pretty well and are still cute. Oh man, this is a weird feeling...anyone else feeling a little nostalgic watching this clip?

  • Rest of April 2008

Photo Update for the rest of April. I love being able to back post entries!

TLC outing to Brooklyn Museum to catch the Murakami exhibit

Yes, we love to imitate art. keke

TLC inside the museum and outside by the lovely cherry blossoms.

Meeting baby Kayla for the first time. She totally melted my heart. This precious one is the first daughter of our good friends Jeff and Julia. Oppa and I were so excited to meet Kayla. Oppa's praying for her in the 2nd pic.

Can you guess who this is? Randomly after dinner one night my coworkers and I ran into a mob scene and saw the dimpled one in person. Then 30 seconds later we saw Peter Gallagher (the dad from the OC) and Morgan Freeman. You gotta love NYC.
